How do you calculate fees with bitcoind?

How do you calculate fees with bitcoind? Here is the transaction id as an example: 10ff046cb00483c4b4222fe3d1798b98d5a17af55ff7fc0a6e1e2398b86c13bd https://ift.tt/2Maf9vK

what's the point of "n" in "vout"? getrawtransaction

what's the point of "n" in "vout"? getrawtransaction It seems like "n" is the index, is that true? If that is the case, why is the "n" key necessary? Since it's an array, couldn't you just use the array index? Seems redundant, but i'm sure there's a reason. Thanks https://ift.tt/2n1BUXE

While calculating merkle proof, where are the other hashes being stored?

While calculating merkle proof, where are the other hashes being stored? Consider that I have a merkle root made up of transactions A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H. The root is H( H(H(A)+H(B)) + H(H(C)+H(D)) ) + H( H(H(E)+H(F)) + H(H(G)+H(H)) ). Now, I have to verify whether transaction C is part of this root (which it is). I am supposed to get hash of C H(C), which I can using the one-way hash function. But then, after that I must get hash of other values also: H(D), H(H(H(A)+(B))) and so on in order to verify that C is a part of the Merkle tree.... Where do these hash values come from? Are they stored somewhere? If not, how are they dynamically generated? And if all hashes are stored, how do I know that my hash H(C) has to be paired with H(D) and not H(A). Similarly for other levels also. Doesn't storing all hashes defeat the purpose of optimizing space? https://ift.tt/2mW9K03

Allowing Incoming Connection on Bitcoin Core

Allowing Incoming Connection on Bitcoin Core Good Evening, I recently installed Bitcoin Core v0.12.1 on my home server (running Windows 7) and wanted to allow it to accept incoming connections and used the guide found here: https://bitcoin.org/en/full-node#windows-7 to ensure I did everything that was needed. Unfortunately, it hasn't been showing any incoming connection and when I used the connection tool recommended in the guide ( https://bitnodes.21.co/#join-the-network ), it says my server is unreachable. I have already setup port forwarding for port 8333 to both my server's IP address, 192.168.1.105 (wireless) & 192.168.1.129 (ethernet). I ran a port scan on the following websites and they all indicate that Port 8333 is open: Ping.eu Port Check WhatMyIP Port Scanner T1 Shopper Port Scanner (I would provide links for the above scanners, but I cannot post more than 2 links) I also created two rules in Windows Firewall (under Inbound Rules) with the following pro

Can SPV clients offer "proof of absence" of a transaction?

Can SPV clients offer "proof of absence" of a transaction? So light SPV clients give the user the ability to obtain merkle proofs (from a full node) that a given transaction is included in a block. Is there some cryptographic mechanism by which an SPV client could obtain proof that a transaction (or type of transaction) is not included in a block, while still being relatively "light" (O(log(n), say)? Preventing the exposure of public addresses on a website

Preventing the exposure of public addresses on a website Rather than having a single, fixed address, I want to generate a new address on my website every time a user request comes in. I'm concerned about google or another web crawler indexing my website and tying my Bitcoin address to my website address. I've thought about pregenerating the addresses, storing them in a database, and only showing one to each user. I think there's probably a better way. I use node.js, so a solution using bitcoinjs or another node.js package would be preferable. I would prefer to use multisignature addresses. I would rather not depend on blockchain.info or an exchange - it introduces a single point of failure. https://ift.tt/2LMx923

Adding Dependencies to Bitcoin Core

Adding Dependencies to Bitcoin Core I am currently editing a fork of Bitcoin Core. I have three libraries I would like to add as dependencies. One is my own creation (CPISync) and it depends on a second library (NTL) which in turn depends on a third (GMP). I have looked here and here for ways to add libraries to Bitcoin Core, but neither has proved helpful. Like the first post, I am still seeing Undefined reference to errors every time (and I have tried every permutation to Makefile.am discussed there). Likwise, I have added ntl.mk and gmp.mk files (and successfully run make) like the second advises, but to no avail. My question is: what is the standard procedure for adding libraries to Bitcoin Core? I mean this both specifically to my case and generally for Bitcoin Core, since my many searches this past week have not revealed any semblance of a beaten path. My error looks like this: libbitcoin_server.a(libbitcoin_server_a-net_processing.o): In function `ProcessMessage(CNode*, s

CryptoDredge 0.8.0 Nvidia GPU Miner Now Faster and With Support for Tribus

Image
CryptoDredge 0.8.0 Nvidia GPU Miner Now Faster and With Support for Tribus The CryptoDredge miner has started as a faster alternative for Nvidia miners for the Lyra2REv2 algorithm, but since then it has been evolving into a multi-functional miner that supports more algorithms and provides good performance in them as well. The latest version of CryptoDredge brings performance improvements in a few algorithms and also support for the Tribus crypto algorithm. You can expect to get around 15-30% faster hashrate in Allium and Phi2 and about 18-35% faster performance in Lyra2z with the version 0.8.0, depending on your GPUs. Do note that as a result of the increased performance the energy consumption might also increase, so if your GPUs get hotter just decrease the TDP limit a bit. Also you might need to update the video drivers to the latest release if you are using an older version. We are reminding you that CryptoDredge is a closed source miner that comes with 1% built-in developer fee, s

Any API to estimate the miner fee for a Bitcoin raw transaction?

Any API to estimate the miner fee for a Bitcoin raw transaction? Coming from the ethereum development scene, I guess I'm kinda spoiled by the availability of the web3 library which has easy access to the eth.gasPrice and eth.estimateGas methods to get the default gas price and gas limit for raw transactions. I'm wondering if there are similar APIs from the bitcoin clients like Bitcoin Core? So that given a particular transaction, there will be a fast and easy way to calculate a suggested miner fee for it? Thanks. https://ift.tt/2v10cWh

Could Bitcoin be based on accounts instead, more like banks?

Could Bitcoin be based on accounts instead, more like banks? In banking, a user's account will have a balance, and when they spend an amount is credited from their balance. For example, the account #310 could have $100, and spending $10 would reduce it to $90. Bitcoin on the other hand makes you spend all $100 from the account in a transaction, but the transaction could have two outputs ($10 and $90 - you would keep control of the new $90 account). Why was Bitcoin set up that way instead of the other way? The other way seems more natural. You'd just sign a transaction as coming from your account and going to someone else's account. https://ift.tt/2v0ztsS

Why A Block have a Merkle root hash?

Why A Block have a Merkle root hash? That is the question, why a block needs to have a Merkle root hash, as Iundestand, once a block is mined the hash value of this block is stored at the header of the next one so, it generates the chain. Is some data is changed, the hash will not be the same so, it is possible to notice that some data is changed. So I see that storing the merkle root hash at the header of a block is unuseful as it is doing the same thing as hash pointer of the next block of the chain is doing https://ift.tt/2vjqxhE

What prevents Dash miners from refusing to pay to masternodes?

What prevents Dash miners from refusing to pay to masternodes? I struggle to understand the repationship between Dash miners and masternodes. The proposition is that masternodes provide additional services to the network and automatically get paid a part (45%) of the block reward. What I don't understand is how this share is enforced. From the Dash whitepaper : When mining on the network, pool software (websites that merge the efforts of individual miners) use the RPC API interface to get information about how to make a block. To pay the Masternodes, this interface must be extended by adding a secondary payee to GetBlockTemplate. Pools then propagate their successfully mined blocks, with a split payment between themselves and a Masternode. What prevents miners from simply ignoring the masternodes and assigning 100% of block reward to themselves? https://ift.tt/2LYdWY0

API Update – September 1st, 2018

API Update – September 1st, 2018 Starting from September 1st, 2018, 00:00 UTC , Bitfinex will be implementing a series of changes to the way we manage WebSocket connections to our APIs . As of September 1st, every WebSocket connection will have a limit of 50 subscriptions to market data feed channels (tickers, book, candles, trades, …) . We kindly ask all users to adapt their application setup accordingly to split subscriptions to channels using multiple WebSocket connections. As an example, if you subscribe to all tickers, books, candles, trades channels on a single WebSocket connection, you’ll receive error:10305 ( docs.bitfinex.com/v2/docs/ws-general#section-error-codes ) to notify the quota if the current WebSocket connection is full. For users, this means handling multiple streams, or running multiple instances and spreading them over different pairs. Implementing this API change results in improved connections for API users, meaning quicker data feeds and optimised trading s

How long does block validation take?

How long does block validation take? Assume a miner receives a new block from a connected peer. Please correct me if I'm wrong: The miner validates the newly received block before using it themself and sending it to their other connected peers. I heard this but it seems to me that it'd be a better strategy to already use the block to mine on top of it because the block header and the proof of work associated with it is very fast to verify and it's highly unlikely someone made a block header with a small hash for an invalid block. So why keep mining on top of the previous block? How long does this process typically take? What does it depend on? Is it done on specialized mining hardware or on a general-purpose CPU? Is it correct that the time block validation takes is linear to the block's + witness's size should segwit activate? Also: How long does it take on average for a block to be propagated through the network? It'd be great if that average is weighted on

Totally Disalusioned By Bitcoin!

Totally Disalusioned By Bitcoin! I signed my wife up with a Bitcoin Wallet account and it was functional. However, after attempting to access it and going through the verification process more times then I can remember. I went to a Ern Free Bitcoin site and even had bitcoin sent to Bitcoin Wallet using my [long] bitcoin number. I attempted to access my account several times but got nowhere. When I attempted to get a new wallet I got a "Big Message"...."You are attempting to steal this site" With that I completely deleted everything related to bitcoin. Now I am having difficulty registering for anything! What is with this??? I feel like I was tried and convicted of a crime that never occurred!!! https://ift.tt/2AjN83j

Significance of the "hash" field reported by the 'bitcoin-cli getblock' command

Significance of the "hash" field reported by the 'bitcoin-cli getblock' command It is stated that the header of a block does not contain a 'hash' field ( see https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Block_hashing_algorithm or Antonopolous' Mastering Bitcoin 2nd Ed. ) This makes sense since inlcuding such a field would be self-referential. However, when interrogating the blockchain for info on a specific block for example via 'bitcoin-cli getblock' a 'hash' field is reported: { "hash": "00000000839a8e6886ab5951d76f411475428afc90947ee320161bbf18eb6048", "confirmations": 534047, "strippedsize": 215, . . . Is the "hash" field something that the 'bitcoin-cli' calculates and inserts in situ into the json for informational purpouses OR is it that the "hash" field >is< actually part of the header and my understanding of this aspect is flawe

Creating lage blocks with multiple transactions in regtest mode?

Creating lage blocks with multiple transactions in regtest mode? I want to create blocks with multiple transactions in regtest mode. I want to test propagation with blocks of size 1-2 MB on the dash network. ./dash-cli -regtest -daemon -debug -port=8330 -rpcport=8331 generate 101 creates all blocks of size 181 and with 1 transaction. What command-line argument should I use to change that. I have tried ./dash-cli -regtest -daemon -debug -port=8330 -rpcport=8331 getnewaddress and then ./dash-cli -regtest -daemon -debug -port=8330 -rpcport=8331 sendtoaddress addr .001 to transfer amounts, so that new transactions are created. Even then the block size remains same. Any help? Should I be creating transactions in another way in order for it to be in mempool and in blocks. https://ift.tt/2ve1mwH

Selection of UTXO with Pending (non-mined) Transactions [duplicate]

Selection of UTXO with Pending (non-mined) Transactions [duplicate] This question already has an answer here: Is it possible to spend an output that hasn't yet been confirmed? 2 answers I have a theoretical question about Blockchain Wallet implementations. Say wallet A has UTXO's for {50, 30} with ID's {0,1} and wants to send wallet B 2 separate payments of $40 each before any block containing the first transaction can be mined. What is the protocol for handling this? What UTXOs will be referenced as inputs to each transaction? How can the 2nd transaction use the Output of the 1st as its Input if miners can mine any transactions irrespective of order? There must be a selection criteria to avoid unintentional double-spending: simply checking the Blockchain for all UTXOs doesn't account for the latest pending transactions. It seems you must all check the pending transactions before validating any transaction or creating any transaction? https://ift.tt/2LVgTZt

Is auditing a BIP32 tree only possible if it is non-hardened?

Is auditing a BIP32 tree only possible if it is non-hardened? BIP 32 allows you to to implement the auditor use case : Audits: N(m/*) In case an auditor needs full access to the list of incoming and outgoing payments, one can share all account public extended keys. This will allow the auditor to see all transactions from and to the wallet, in all accounts, but not a single secret key. If I want all my bitcoin transactions to be fully audited, then I would need to give my auditor my master node details. However I obviously don't want to give him my master node secret key since he would be able to steal my money. Thus I could only give the auditor my master public key and the chain code. With that he will be able to derive all public keys and see all my transactions. But that means that my entire tree can only use non-harded BIP-32. Is that correct or am I missing something? https://ift.tt/2mMmS80

What is the difference between Compact Blocks, Thin Blocks, Xthin and Graphene Compression? What is the difference between these block propagation techniques in terms of size / bandwidth & computation requirements and also compatibility & reliability? All the above techniques try to prevent syncing data which is already available on other clients instead of just syncing the full block mined. However, in my understanding both sender and receiver have to follow some additional logic to result in the same block. Among the new features probably the most useful one for most people is the additional GPU status report giving you information about power usage, fan speed, core clock, core utilization. As far as performance improvements go, there is a slight bump in the hashrate with about 2-3% on some mining rigs (depending on the type of GPUs you have), we are seeing a bit of improvement on a GTX 1080 Ti mining rig. NebuTech BTMiner 6.0 Changelog: – Add API for status query. – Add dummy web monitor. – Add more GPU status report: power usage, core clock, core utilization – Low-level parameter adjustment, improve 2-3% hashrate on some mining rigs. – Runtime check for n

Should a casino manage its own Bitcoin wallet?

Should a casino manage its own Bitcoin wallet? Let's say I wanted to start an online casino that accepts Bitcoins. Would it make sense to manage my own Bitcoin wallet for this site? Or would it make sense to just use a third-party service that manages the wallet for me? What other considerations are there? https://ift.tt/2Ohlc2O

How do I know that a node provides the accurate blockchain

How do I know that a node provides the accurate blockchain When I connect with a wallet to the bitcoin network, how is the balance actually retrieved? One node? Or more? I understand it is a sum of all transactions. But when I load my wallet I assume I connect to certain node. How do I know that that particular (malicious) node has the most recent or valid blockchain? In other words: can it be possible for a node to cheat by adjusting the blockchain which I could connect to with a wallet and get a faulty balance? I read some articles about this and they state that this will be rejected by the network. But I have no idea how this works. Can somebody help? https://ift.tt/2OmirgH

How do i get a PoS coin to sync with nodes after Invalidateblock at a height?

How do i get a PoS coin to sync with nodes after Invalidateblock at a height? I have forked a pivx clone using invalidateblock at certain block number 863781. Now i have made no changes to the code or protocol so i expect it to mint new coins starting from this height. i have setup 3 nodes and a wallet all at this block height. The wallet is connected to these nodes, mints and generates blocks but the nodes do not seem to receive any updates from the wallet. There are not errors or no information about a new block checking the nodes debug.log. I also tried minting from one of the vps but the others do not seem to receive or blocks are not relayed to them. How do i get these nodes to sync and relay new blocks to each other? After an hour the wallet goes out of sync, is it possible to mine coins with PoS when the wallet is out of sync? https://ift.tt/2OkQdmA

Possibility of broadcasting new block to only a fraction of honest nodes?

Possibility of broadcasting new block to only a fraction of honest nodes? Consider in a block-withholding attack (aka selfish mining attack) , attacker after creating a new block decides to broadcast this new block only to a fraction of network, such that eventually only a part of nodes will receive this new block and the rest of network will not receive it. In my opinion, it will not be possible, because when attacker sends new block to one or some of host nodes, they eventually broadcast this block to whole of network, meaning that eventually all honest nodes will receive this new block. Am I right? or this attacker is able to prevent a fraction of honest nodes from receiving this new block? https://ift.tt/2uROQDS

why block minning not interrupted when block found?

why block minning not interrupted when block found? I am working with bitcion version < ver. 0.13.0 which contains the setgenerate true functionallity. I could see in some situations during minning process that when I find a solution, but the other miner has found it already before (and its already published), I get the message: "ERROR: BitcoinMiner: generated block is stale". My question is: why the minning process on a specific block not interrupted at the moment when a solution found by one of the other miners? https://ift.tt/2NOQGw3
