Mining block are not accepted if BIP related values changed to 0 or 1

Mining block are not accepted if BIP related values changed to 0 or 1 I am creating own alt from LiteCoin source. So I have changed hashGenesisBlock , hashMerkleRoot , nonce , timestamp etc.Things are working fine if i don't make BIP34Height , BIP65Height , BIP66Height & BIP34Hash value to 1 .While doing mining using cpuminer generated hash/blocks are not accepting and that's why blocks are not getting generated/added. If I change that BIP( BIP34Height , BIP65Height & BIP66Height and BIP34Hash) values(not default which is litecoin values), that generated hash/block should be accepted from cpu miner or any other third party mining binary. I've tried by setting value to 0 & 1 both but same result things are not working as expected .. Here is log URL generated from mining : https://gist.github.com/adneerav/591e61657292e6c6561a26b69dc78870 If I don't change that BIP values things are working fine.Generated blocks are accepted to add. Please check log which is

Best way to set up gpu mining rig? Before you yell at me for how bad gpu mining is, its the only thing within my budget right now. But Im not sure what equipment to use, or how to set it up. I was thinking of using a riser board with multiple slots, but Im not sure if that would work. Anybody mind helping me out here? https://ift.tt/2QmEZhH

Is it possible to combine PoW with PoS by taking turns?

Is it possible to combine PoW with PoS by taking turns? I have read about cryptocurrencies and am very excited by many. I have read that one of the worries and constant debates is Proof of Work vs Proof of State with respect to securing the validity of the blockchain, especially within Ethereum. I wondered why we would not just combine the two. For example, the first block validated by PoW, second block by PoS, third by PoW, etc. As each block depends on the previous a 51% attack would be a lot more difficult and power consumption significantly reduced. Is there an obvious problem with doing that? https://ift.tt/2Re27jM

The Global's Most Idyllic Blockchain Tech Sandbox, Crypto in Caribbean Basin Offers Promising Options

The Global's Most Idyllic Blockchain Tech Sandbox, Crypto in Caribbean Basin Offers Promising Options The notion of a financial or tech sandbox, highly popularized over the last 10 years, is increasing momentum across the globe, especially as regulators try to put digital currency, Blockchain technology genies under thorough observation. For some regulators in great jurisdictions like the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) are majorly originating from positions of strength and as such, may facilitate innovations which "fit the mold" or slightly enhance status quo. https://ift.tt/2zGuBvP

Paying to one address using inputs from multiple addresses under same seed

Paying to one address using inputs from multiple addresses under same seed I am using bitcoin core and I was wondering. If I make a bitcoin payment using bitcoin-cli which has about 50 addresses registered to it. If the payment is for 1 BTC and I pay from the address A1 (let's use A1 instead of an actual address) but A1 doesn't have enough balance will it take money from other wallets automatically to help pay the set amount? If not then how can I make it so? Edit: I am using 'getnewaddress' when generating these other addresses. https://ift.tt/2NaRyKX

Transactions Uniqueness Verification

Transactions Uniqueness Verification From what I gathered, to process a bitcoin transaction I basically create the transaction object locally, add my signature generated with my private key, then send this to a public node for it to add it to the next block. However I do not understand what stops this transaction from being re-used. If I want to make another transfer to the same address for the same amount, it would end up with the same signature? So what stops someone from copying the raw transaction (with my signature) from a past transaction and trying to execute it again? How is bitcoin protected against that? https://ift.tt/2OXOdk0

Solar Flare wipes all hard drives... What happens?

Solar Flare wipes all hard drives... What happens? Imagine, for a moment, that a massive solar flare wipes out all hard drives on planet Earth. All hard drives are wiped clean and with them all records of the Bitcoin blockchain. Would we be able to recover? Is there some alternate backup of the blockchain? Do we hope that at least one computer is protected beneath ground? I assume everyone's personal wallets would be lost unless they used paper wallets. Certainly a big blow to the Bitcoin community. https://ift.tt/2DIeh1l

Energy to confirm one block with state-of-the-art hardware at current difficulty level

Energy to confirm one block with state-of-the-art hardware at current difficulty level An earlier answer claims it would burn around $2M worth of electricity to confirm one block using an ordinary CPU. See: Energy to confirm one block? Can anyone estimate what this figure would be for today's state-of-the-art mining hardware? E.g., suppose I am presented with a chain of 8 block headers with mining difficulty at or above current level. Without any other information, how certain could I be that they were generated by current blockchain network? How much would it cost to create a fake, ignoring equipment cost? https://ift.tt/2Qgokwb

Zcash docs on T-Address Format, Transaction Format & Structure, Private key generation and public derivation

Zcash docs on T-Address Format, Transaction Format & Structure, Private key generation and public derivation I have been trying to implement Zcash in a wallet and I have issues with their documentations really lacking a lot. What's the format of T-Addresses ? Length ? Encoding ? Format of a Zcash transaction and it's structure ? How are Zcash transactions signed which functions are used ? How are private keys created ? How often does a typical miner refresh their candidate block?

How often does a typical miner refresh their candidate block? I realize that this is a general question with no "correct" answer, as every miner can operate differently. Having said that, I'd like to be able to display a list of transactions that would be considered a fair representation of the transactions in the memory pool that are poised to be mined . So far I have been: Using getblocktemplate to get the list of transactions. Refreshing the list when a new block arrives, or at 1 minute intervals . Using getblocktemplate seems logical, as I imagine the majority of miners would like to get the most amount possible in fees from their blocks. I'm then guessing that miners would want to refresh their candidate block at certain intervals to check for higher-fee transactions in the mempool. Is it likely that miners would be inclined to refresh their candidate blocks much more (or less) than every minute? https://ift.tt/2QloBOy

Why Bitcoin uses UTXO model?

Why Bitcoin uses UTXO model? I know what it means. But I can't understand why Bitcoin decided to make such a model, where you have no balance, only unspent transaction outputs. And isn't the same thing as having the balance? I assume if you didn't spend coins, you have them in balance. What advantage does it have over a usual (non-UTXO) model? With comparison with other cryptocurrencies which has no UTXO, if possible, please. https://ift.tt/2xKTepJ

On a shared wallet, if one of the recipients deleted their wallets off their phone, is there a way to rejoin?

On a shared wallet, if one of the recipients deleted their wallets off their phone, is there a way to rejoin? We only had one 12 word backup for the main holder on their phone. The second person, on their phone didn’t get one(me). That I know of, I guess. But I deleted the wallet by accident. Now, is there a way to get back in there as I am the second co-signer and kind of need to have access to the wallet. The first person is trying to send me wallet invites, etc, but I really don’t get it. It’s not working nor do I have the knowledge of this app. I just know for sure he had set it up so both of us needed to agree to use it or spend it. Now, I don’t even have access to the wallet and we can’t figure out how to get that back. Are we out of luck? https://ift.tt/2QfLkeu

Is it secure to collect common public addresses under a wallet using BlockCypher Wallet API

Is it secure to collect common public addresses under a wallet using BlockCypher Wallet API I am working on an exchange platform with users having separate pair of public and private keys using blockcypher api. I encountered Blockcypher Wallet API , and it seems its a pleasant way of collating Set of Public Addresses to Query Together. For some reasons, i intend to add all new generated public addresses created by any user under a single wallet name (the site name) using the "Wallet API", this will come in handy in the case where by i need to filter all incoming transactions webhook to only the public addresses under the site name into a callback url. So i needed to confirm if this is a secure way to handle it. I would appreciate if an elegant way to handle this can be suggested. https://ift.tt/2NQ08DU

when does a transaction get registered / included in a block [migrated]

when does a transaction get registered / included in a block [migrated] I want to know when does a transaction gets registered in a block ? Is there any queue type of structure where the transactions get stored before getting included in a block by miner ??? As in let's say if i have transferred 1 eth to my friend and announce that transaction to the block chain, how much time will it take to get included in a block and block to get attached to the block chain ? And also on what basis miners select which transactions to include in the block, is it on the first come first serve basis ? And if they don't want my transaction to get included in the block they are about to mine then in that case what happens to my transaction and the amount of ether i have send to my friend ??? https://ift.tt/2OUgIPD

Generating private key/bitcoin address based on a "password"

Generating private key/bitcoin address based on a "password" Since the private key is basically a random large number, would I be able to pick a password and have that converted into an address? For example: pick "mysecretpwd". Have it sha256ed, obtain a large integer that is the private key from which I can easily derive the public key and the bitcoin address. Then for spending any funds received at that address I only need to remember "mysecretpwd", no private key storage on paper, mnemonics or anything, basically the funds are stored in my brain. What are the security/privacy implications? https://ift.tt/2xHGJLE

Why haven't a large number of cryptocurrencies copied Primecoin's mining algorithm?

Why haven't a large number of cryptocurrencies copied Primecoin's mining algorithm? According to my understanding, generating an ever-growing list of prime numbers benefits mathematics and society in some mysterious way. Given this, why have more recently created proof-of-work focused coins largely ignored Primecoin's mining algorithm in favor of Bitcoin's, which yields no epiphenomenal benefits? https://ift.tt/2R4wUPF

Funakoshi Equihash 144,5 CUDA Miner v4.10 For Windows and Linux

Image
Funakoshi Equihash 144,5 CUDA Miner v4.10 For Windows and Linux Funakoshi’s Equihash 144,5 CUDA miner is arguably the fastest Equihash 144,5 Nvidia GPU miner available at the moment for both Linux and Windows users with the software constantly being developed and improved as you can see from the short timespan between the new version updates. The latest version 4.10 once again bumps up the hashrate you get mining Equihash 144,5 crypto coins such as Bitcoin Gold (BTG) that uses that particular variation of Equihash. This miner does not seem to be getting that much attention like other Equihash GPU miners, but that doesn’t mean that it does not outperform them, it is just that the software is focused on a single algorithm only while other alternatives usually support multiple algorithms. Funakoshi’s miner is a closed source one and comes as pre-compiled binaries for Windows and Linux with a built-in developer fee of 1.5%. – For more information and to download and try the latest versio

Image
New T-Rex 0.6.10 Nvidia GPU Miner For Windows and Linux New update to version 0.6.10 for the T-Rex Nvidia GPU miner that brings extra performance for a number of supported algorithms, along with some new features, bug fixes and even some useful cosmetic changes. The new T-Rex 0.6.10 should get you an extra 1-2% hashrate increase in X16r, X16s, X17, C11, Bitcore, BCD and Sonoa algorithms over the previously released version T-Rex 0.6.6 . Among the new interesting features is the added functionality for setting failover pools in the command line by just adding extra pool parameters like with a single pool, the other useful thing to note is the miner uptime getting displayed now as a part of the stats reported by the miner. Of course there are a number of other new features that might be useful for some people, so do check the miner help when you download it. Do note that the T-Rex is a closed source miner with 1% development fee built-in. Also make sure you have a recent video driver in

New lolMiner 0.5 AMD and Nvidia OpenCL Multi Equihash GPU Miner

Image
New lolMiner 0.5 AMD and Nvidia OpenCL Multi Equihash GPU Miner GPU miners of Equihash-based altcoins might want to check the latest lolMiner 0.5 – an OpenCL miner for both AMD and Nvidia GPUs that supports Equihash 144.5 (ANON, ASF, BTG, BTCZ, LitecoinZ, HeptaCoin, Safecoin, Snowgem, ZEL), Equihash 96.5 (Minexcoin), Equihash 192.7 (ZERO, Genesis, SafeCash) and the newly added Equihash 210_9 (Aion). The most interesting thing in the new version is the addition of Equihash 210_9 (Aion) support, though there are of course multiple fixes and improvements applied as well. The new version comes with complete rework of all GPU algorithms for both stability and speed and this also results in the memory footprint of the algorithms getting lower, so 144/5 is now fitting to 2.2 GB and thus works on 3 GB video cards and 192/7 is now close to 3GB and should work on any 4GB video card fine. The new 210/9 (AION)uses only about 800 MB of video memory. You can find the full changelog of the lolMiner

Solo Mining Altcoin (Litecoin Fork) with AMD Miner I'm using CgMiner with GPU support, and I am having issues getting the computer to mine. I am able to mine using CPU miner, and CCMiner on other computers with the same .bat file settings, but with CGMiner, I can't use the same settings. Cannot send BTC. "Insufficient funds" Yesterday I've sent transaction from my 2-of-4 Multi-sig wallet in Copay for Mac. Transaction was signed by me and 1 more user. It was broadcasted to Blockchain (As Copay says). But when I copy TX ID and search it on Blockchain.info or Insight - i see "No transaction found" message. For now, I cannot create new transaction from this wallet because I receive an error "Insufficient funds". Is there any workaround for this? https://ift.tt/2OQda0X

I own some bitcoin, but forgot how and where i stored them. How can I find my lost bitcoin?

I own some bitcoin, but forgot how and where i stored them. How can I find my lost bitcoin? I purchased one bitcoin back on 2/8/14 and now don't recall having any kind of account information. I actually forgot about the purchase until recently. My email address has not changed since I purchased the one bitcoin back in 2014. Not sure how to access that one bitcoin in the event I would ever want to sell it or just know how to get to it. Thanks for any guidance you can provide. https://ift.tt/2QWt23q

Tendermint consensus: Are validators "known" and "pre-selected"?

Tendermint consensus: Are validators "known" and "pre-selected"? What are similarities and differences between Tendermint consensus and Proof-of-Stak ? For example, in both consensus, a validator is selected randomly (I think in Tendermint consensus they are selected in a round robin process). And I think in Tendermint consensus, validators are known and pre-selected , unlike Proof-of-Stake consensus. Is it true? and if yes, what entity does confirm a known validator? https://ift.tt/2IbSy0C

Financial Blockades aren't Good for Humanity but Crucial for Cryptos

Financial Blockades aren't Good for Humanity but Crucial for Cryptos Human beings from every corner of the community, with absolutely nothing in common except for a shared hardship suffered. All have surprisingly found themselves closed out minus any official warning by their payment provider - account frozen, lifeline broken apart, funds seized. And for what reason precisely? For the formless crime of not conforming with the terms of service. In the real world, however, the only criminals are the financial providers that committed these acts against their customers. https://ift.tt/2OHEJsV

Is Anonymity The Future For Bitcoin?

Is Anonymity The Future For Bitcoin? Anonymity will create a trust deficit in Bitcoin as a viable investment option and a value storing digital currency. The only reason why there is so much confidence in the market for Bitcoin is that all the transactions are available in the public domain in real time. This is why people have trust in Bitcoin. We all know that Bitcoin is based on the highly secured, sophisticated and advanced Blockchain Technology. As every transaction on the block needs approval from various sources on the network, it makes Bitcoin trading a transparent and accountable process. Therefore, to do away with the 'public character' of Bitcoin and bringing in anonymity will compromise with its security feature and further create suspicion in the public's eyes. And most importantly, adding anonymity will also facilitate terror-funding, illegal transactions, and black money laundering, etc. Hence, it is extremely important that Bitcoin should retain its essentia

How can a third party spend BCH accidentally sent to a BTC address?

How can a third party spend BCH accidentally sent to a BTC address? I transferred bch to an electrum wallet address and haven't ever received it because electrum uses only btc. As I have been trying to recover it I looked up the transaction on explorer.bitcoin.com and it was input but has also been output 5 times and the balance shows 0. So it would appear that someone has access. How is that possible? Shouldn't it be secure? Do I have any sort of recourse? https://ift.tt/2pwwO6U

Problems recovering BCH accidentally sent to BTC address

Problems recovering BCH accidentally sent to BTC address I am one of those people who transferred BCH from bitcoinpurser.com into my electrum wallet that only takes BTC. I have read several articles and have installed and created an elctroncash wallet. I can see that the two have successfully synchronized but on both the transaction still shows as pending. I originally transferred the BCH on September 5. I created the electron cash wallet on the 19th. I would think that it should have come through by now. Shouldn't it? How long does it usually take? So, I am wondering if I sent it to the correct address. Is there a way for me to check that? I have a crypto address from bitcoinpurser when I sent them. https://ift.tt/2IaXTVJ

Updated z-enemy 1.21 Miner With Performance and Stability Improvements

Image
Updated z-enemy 1.21 Miner With Performance and Stability Improvements Another update for the z-enemy 1.21 Nvidia GPU miner that apparently focuses on adding some not so significant performance and stability improvements, as well as fixing some bugs. The lest new feature is an uptime reporting, so you know how long your mining rigs have been running without problems with the z-enemy miner. It is recommended to update to the latest release if you are currently mining using an older version in order to get the optimal performance and stability. The latest z-enemy version 1.21 is available for CUDA 9.1 and 9.2 for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows versions as well as CUDA 9.0, CUDA 9.1 an CUDA 9.2 binaries for Linux (HiveOS, PiMP OS, EthOS & Ubuntu), the 32-bit version does seem to be faster in some of the algorithms. Do note that for maximum performance it is recommended to have the latest drivers installed (ver. 398+). We remind you that z-enemy is a closed source miner available onl

Bitmain Announced Their First 7nm ASIC Chip, Soon in Miners

Image
Bitmain Announced Their First 7nm ASIC Chip, Soon in Miners Bitmain has finally announced their next generation of ASIC chips that are based on 7nm Finfet technology called BM1391 for the SHA256 algorithm, these chips will power the next generation of Bitcoin ASIC miners coming from the company. The new BM1391 chips integrate more than a billion transistors and are optimized for maximum efficiency according to the company and can achieve a ratio of energy consumption to the mining capacity that is as low as 42 J/TH. Bitmain was dominating the Bitcoin mining market with their Antminer S9 in terms of hashrate and units shipped, but they started losing in terms of performance and efficiency lately due to the fact that the competition was adopting new production technologies and making further optimizations to get higher hashrates. We’ll see if Bitmain will be able to get back in the game with their next generation ASIC miners using the new chips… https://ift.tt/2Q0ZEr9

How do I Derive Bech32 Address from P2WPKH Output Script?

How do I Derive Bech32 Address from P2WPKH Output Script? I am building a small script to decode the raw coinbase transaction data into a human-readable viewer without external scripts to better my understanding around the subject. I've noticed that there are many different types of output script types among transactions. (P2SH, P2PK (as seen in genesis block), P2PKH, etc) One thing I have not been able to grasp is how to obtain the Base58 address in the new SegWit P2WPK and P2WSH types. For example, Block #542748 has this coinbase transaction which my script determines to have a pay to witness public key (P2WPK) output with 97cfc76442fe717f2a3f0cc9c175f7561b661997 as the public key hash. Traditionally, in P2PK, P2PKH and P2SH I've used the image on this thread which works quite well. When I apply the same method as the pubkeyhash (P2PKH) with the following operations I get a totally different address: Append version byte: 0097CFC76442FE717F2A3F0CC9C175F7561B661997 SH
